By borrowing money from his father-in-law to buy his first van, Lou launched Customized Tours. Through tenacity and determination Lou began by talking to hotel concierges and developing a good city tour. He would wait in hotel lobbies for small groups needing transportation when no tours were booked. It was during this time that Lou developed his philosophy of treating his customers as guests. He considered himself an ambassador for the City of Seattle.

Lou eventually needed help and had several people help him, a handful of these original guides still help with tours today. One of his early tour guides was (locally famous today) Dick Falkenbury, known for starting the movement to expand Seattle's monorail.

Chances are if you call Customized Tours today, the phone will be answered by Lou's oldest son Joel. Joel runs the day to day operations of Customized Tours now while Lou helps out in a pinch and pays the bills and other errands. For years Joel worked at various levels of management for local companies. The last job Joel held before coming to Customized Tours was Operations Manager for Lowes Home Improvement Warehouse. So in the end it's one happy family for the small, but growing Seattle business.

Scenic single lane rural roads lead you up to the peaceful shadow of Mount Si through the Snoqualmie River Valley to the edge of the breathtaking 270 foot Snoqualmie Falls. Coasting over both floating bridges on Lake Washington, we take a picturesque ride past the University of Washington, through quaint rural farm lands, lush forests, and charming east side towns. When the schedule permits we cap off a perfect day with chocolate at an authentic Swiss chocolate factory.

Boeing Tour - Likely the finest industrial tour in the world, this is certainly the most impressive. Our guide will tell you of the Boeing story while approaching the world's largest building (98.3 acres under one roof) While at the tour center you will begin by viewing a state-of-the-art video before entering the vast factory. There you will see the assembly line, and you will then view all airplanes recently built (777, 767, the largest airplane in commercial service the 747, and soon the future of aviation the 7E7). After the tour there will be time to shop for a souvenir at the Boeing Store.

A perfect additional option to the Boeing tour is the Museum of Flight. The Museum of Flight is unquestionably one of the top flight museums in the United States. Fun for young and old alike it has something for seasoned or novice aircraft fans. See the first Air Force One. The SR22 Blackbird, the Concorde, Boeing's old red barn and the new WW1 and WW2 wings. Mount Rainier Tours - Glaciers, wildflowers, waterfalls, wildlife - see the wonder of this 14,411 foot statuesque mountain. Mount Rainier is our nations third tallest peek, but stands alone making it one of the worlds most beautiful peaks. Old Mount Tahoma has much magic to reveal. Deer, elk, birds, bear and other wildlife are often spotted. The pristine nature of the alpine wonderland is a spectacle worthy of the drive. Our longest stop is at a place called Paradise- its grandios name lives up to its billing. We will have stops at old growth forest, waterfalls, ranger stations and Paradise or Sunrise. We allow for a go at your own pace day--see as much as you can physically are able. Some of our specific stops include: Narvada Falls, Paradise and Reflections Lakes. Optional stops include Grove of the Patriarchs, Box canyon, Christine Falls, Sunrise, lunch stops. If interested we can stop by Chihuly's Bridge of Glass for you art lovers. Enjoy the wonder, relax and feel small and know your place in the order of things.

Mount St. Helens - On May 18th 1980 the "Mountain of Fire" blew its top with the force of over 27,000 atomic bombs. The ash cloud drifted around the world and it dumped ash a distance of a thousand miles away, burying cars and leaving people stranded for days. The devastation left was awesome and it resulted in a mile plus wide crater, the largest landslide in recorded history. The trees in the blast zone were left prostrate and all vegetation destroyed and the soil steril. Rivers of mud buried lakes and rivers and made new ones. The recovery 24 years later is amazing and a sight of incredible beauty. This ecotour will set you back to the realities of our smallness and the vast, overwhelming power of nature. The tour is about 10 -12 hours long and needs to start early in the morning. There will be at least 4 stops on the tour.

Leavenworth Octoberfest / Christmas Lights Tour - This charming Bavarian village is full of great shopping, food, spirits, activities and ambiance. Spend the day sightseeing-pampering yourself, Skiing, snowshoeing, horseback riding, or just hanging out. Most people go during December for the famous lighting of the town which happens at dusk on the Saturdays in December preceeding Christmas. So come see Saint Nick, eat some roasting chesnuts, buy a coo coo clock. Tour depends on mountain pass conditions.
